Young Women Star in Michigan Fireworks Display

Tiffany Van, a new player from Houston, Texas, stole the show in the Michigan Women’s Fireworks Cup, defeating Karen Davis (FL) in a closely fought final match. In addition to the prize money and trophy, she received a 4th of July wine goblet and a beautiful Women in Backgammon (WiB) specially-designed board along with added prize money donated by WiB. She played at an extremely high level, averaging a PR of 7.9 alongside a PR of 6.9 by finalist and WiB co-founder Karen Davis.


Women’s prizes provided by Women in Backgammon went to: Karen Davis and April Mesich for going the furthest of women in the Championship division; Laura Granger for going the furthest in the Intermediate division; and Victoria Fung (IL) for going the furthest in the Limited division. Irina Litzenberger VA) tied for second in the BMAB event.

Irina and Roberto Litzenberger (VA) won the Michigan doubles event, defeating Chris and Patty Knapp (MA) in the final.

Marianne Bowen (VA) was the first recipient of the Women in Backgammon recording prize and received a complete set of match recording equipment and instructions, as well as a lesson from expert player and tournament director Jeb Horton (NC).


A dozen women attended the women’s networking breakfast hosted by Women in Backgammon on Monday July 4th.
